Growing a visual language from the ground up

Started with a small need - illustrations for empty and error states in our mobile app, then set a visual direction that kicked off bigger conversations and moved WebstaurantStore toward a more consistent, engaging style.

why this matters

Our company illustration felt dated, and the styles were all over the place

When I joined the WebstauranStore, we didn’t have an official illustration style. The few visuals we did have were inconsistent and felt out of step with the clean, dynamic, and trustworthy direction the company wanted to take.

RESULTS

From a small project to company-wide adoption

High visibility adoption

Use across mobile and web in both core product features and marketing surface

Set the foundation

Helped kick off a longer-term effort to unify our visual style across platforms

Highlights

Some illustrations and icons I’ve designed for WebstaurantStore across different platforms throughout the years.

what's next

Pushing the visual style forward

Using this set of digital assets, we’ll kick off collaboration with the design system team and marketing teams to create a unified, engaging visual style and lay the groundwork for our future design system.

Reflection

What I learned

Small things can create big momentum

Starting with just a few illustrations for the mobile app created momentum. It opened up conversations about visual consistency and set us on a path toward a stronger, more unified style across the company.
